S1000D 101: Getting Started Series

Further to a regular S1000D blog reader’s suggestion, I’d like to put together a series on getting started on S1000D. Suggested post titles include:

- Is S1000D right for you?
- Choosing authoring, database and IETP software
- Creating a DMRL and S1000D business rules
- A comparison between a 'standard' technical manual and an S1000D technical manual: which information goes where?

I’ve made a start with the first installment (called "Before you Start - an overview of the initial stages of working with S1000D"), which I will post in the next day or two. My company, Mekon, have kindly agreed to host the full article as a PDF which you can download from their website. If one of you would like to contribute a further article on this phase of Getting started please let me know and we can probably build up a 'Library' of other views.

I will put together other articles on the various subjects over the next few weeks and hopefully we can repeat the exercise. I will attempt to be fiercely independent in what the articles contain but other articles can, of course, take on a bias from vendors if they wish. Let me know in the comments section below what other areas I can walk people through.
