S1000D Clearwater Conference - Update

We are now a month on from the last S1000D Blog posting and only a relatively short time to go before the conference and the organising committee has firmed up on some of the programme.

Some parts of the four-day event have changed quite a bit whilst retaining the main thrust. The new features include:

  • Training sessions
  • Feedback
  • Scorm Test Bed
  • Implementation and experience with Business Rules
  • Multimedia – a firming up on who are going to do the presentations
  • Standards Integration
Training Sessions

In looking at this area courses are being provided on S1000D Essentials, ADL Scorm essentials, SE, 3d and S1000D and Business Rules. Of course the problem for some will be “which one do I go to”?

Feedback

Here I presume we are going to be updated on the current state of discussions between the groups involved with S1000D. Being also involved with SAT iSpec2200 it will be very interesting for me to hear what is happening with them.

Implementation and Business Rules

Here is a vitally important aspect which is missing from S1000D. Already we are seeing projects which are starting without any rules in place and from some feedback that I am receiving one or two could be cause for some concern.

Multimedia

Here the committee have firmed up on the papers/business cases being presented to the delegates. One or two of the companies involved in the delivery of papers for this area of the conference do not immediately spring to mind as being suppliers of multimedia material.

The implementation of the delivery of multimedia, both in the control and display, is an area which is clearly going to grow in importance. Please, however, do not let us get too clever and miss the point of the output medium – the clear passing of information in the best form to the maintainer/trainee.

Standards

I guess that in this session we will see how the various presenters see the implementation of the S1000D Specification to their particular area of the world. I note that we have papers from Australia and the US DOD.

Let us hear from you

As usual I am very happy to hear from readers of this S1000D Blog. Contributions to the overall discussion are always welcome because they nearly always bring a different perspective on the topic.

I look forward to reading your comments about any of the issues raised here or even a new topic.
