S1000D and this years X-Pubs Event

Last year I pointed readers to the X-Pubs event in the UK. By all accounts this was very well attended by delegates from over 50 different companies. The delegates reported back very favourably with the breadth and quality of the presentations.

This year sees the return of this event which is being held on 4th & 5th June near Reading in the UK and with a title of "How did they do it?", together with the speakers already booked, this promises to be an event not to be missed if you can be in the area at the right time. Although the main thrust is obviously XML based with S1000D Issue 2.2 being fully XML compliant these areas

Topics and Tracks

Topics to be covered in this event include Content Management Systems, Publishing Standards and Change Management - all of importance to the S1000D Community.

There are two tracks through the event, one deals primarliy with business and technical issues with the other focusing on the commercial aspects which is probably of more interest to vendors of software and services.

Some of you may be aware of an ongoing discussion regarding DITA and S1000D. Well no conference to do with the dissemination of information would be complete without these two interesting specifications being covered somewhere. X-Pubs is no exception.

More often than some would like to agree there is an increasing requirement for Paper output from S1000D and I am sure that with the XML processes will provide some with a route to hard-copy deliverables. In addition standard XML processes can be used to provide straightforward IETP deliverables (provided the rules are followed in the generation of the SGML/XML Data Modules).

Further Information

Further information can be obtained by visiting the X-Pubs Website. An early visit to the site is recommended because the number which can attend are limited and, apparently, the take-up so far has been brisk.
